Description

Performed by American musician Chris Cornell, You Know My Name is the theme song of the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale, who wrote and produced it jointly with the soundtrack’s composer, David Arnold. The film producers chose Cornell because they wanted a strong male singer. Cornell and Arnold tried to make the song a replacement theme for the character instead of the James Bond Theme reflecting the agent's inexperience in Casino Royale, as well as an introduction to Daniel Craig's grittier and more emotional portrayal of Bond. The track was leaked onto the Internet on September 20, 2006, and later released as an official single on November 13, 2006 through Interscope Records. It charted in many countries, notably peaking at No. 7 on the UK singles chart. Reviews of the song were positive; it won the Satellite Award and the World Soundtrack Award, and was nominated for a Grammy Award.

Christopher Cornell (July 1964 – May 2017) was born Christopher John Boyle in Seattle, Washington. He is best known as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and the primary lyricist for the rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave. He also had a solo career and contributed to numerous movie soundtracks. Cornell was the founder and front-man of Temple of the Dog, a one-off tribute band dedicated to his late friend and musician Andrew Wood. Several music journalists, fan polls and fellow musicians have regarded Cornell as one of the very greatest rock singers. Cornell is considered a key figure of the 1990s grunge movement with an extensive songwriting history, a nearly four-octave vocal range and a powerful vocal belting technique. Cornell also released four solo studio albums.

It is scintillatingly good. Superbrass more than live up to their name.”

“This intriguing "water-borne" voyage runs the gamut from more classically-tinged interpretations to straight-ahead and improvised jazz. Along that journey we are treated to a highly inspired and masterfully presented performance.”
