Skool of Brass

Skool of Brass brings together 12 different resources that provide a progressive series of educational repertoire for Starter, Junior & Training bands and ensembles.
Each resource targets a specific level of ability and at each level allows the young musicians to develop their technique and musicianship within a wide range of musical styles.

5 & In !

5 & In ! is the ultimate “starter” band resource. It works on the premise that if a student can play and read 5 basic notes (sometimes less than 5) they deserve to be “in the band !” This resource includes parts for all brass instruments and is designed in such a way that these parts can be combined together to form a wholesome sounding, harmonically complete “band” for 3 to 30 (or more) brass players plus an optional drummer.

A Week in the Life

A collection of seven contrasting pieces continues the Superbrass series of 3 part flexi resources for Junior Band. This resource builds on the foundations established and musically showcased in the starter resource 5 & In !. A Week in the Life is designed to form a wholesome sounding, harmonically complete band of 3 to 30 brass players plus an optional drummer and percussion.

Ba-Da-Boom Brass

A collection of 30 original compositions and arrangements, inspired by the heritage and culture of world and historical styles. In this resource, occasional improvisation is welcomed and encouraged. The notes necessary for effective improvisation are provided and will sound correct when played in any chosen order.

Backing Tracks

The use of backing tracks allows a young musician to replicate much of what is musically achieved in a full band rehearsal or performance and is a great way of learning and enjoying oneself until the chance to play with ‘live’ musicians comes along. Using the backing tracks will help a young musician to not only learn / improve their own part, but to increase awareness of their ‘musical surroundings’, leading to a successful and fun performance. These Backing Tracks are intended for all the Skool of Brass resources

Band Travels

We all know that playing in a band is, for us brass players what it is all about. Band Travels seeks to take brass instrumentalists (and drummers / percussionists) on a global journey of musical discovery by exploring characteristic music of each country visited

Grooves & Co

Grooves & Co. is a progressive collection of pieces that aims to introduce brass (plus drum kit and percussion players) to the fun and benefit of ensemble playing. Each piece is groove-based, and takes as its source one of numerous ‘world’ music styles.

Let 'em Loose

Part of a collection of twelve contrasting pieces and a new initiative for Junior brass players, who are engaging in their very early and initial ensemble activities. This resource helps develop both tight rhythmic ensemble skills alongside the freedom to improvise. Think of all that a young brass player stands to miss out on if a basic skill and confidence in improvisation, is not part of their musical tool kit.

Movers & Shakers

This collection of eight contrasting pieces continues our Superbrass series of 3 part flexi resources for Junior Band. The resource builds on the foundations established and musically showcased in the starter resource 5 & In ! Movers & Shakers includes parts for all brass instruments.

Parp !

A collection of thirty original compositions. Set at a Junior Band level, PARP ! follows a flexi scoring formula of mixed brass players; requiring a minimum of 4 brass players - but the maximum number is endless. The pieces are predominantly groove based and seek to take participants through a wide range of styles and musical identities. In the instance of using just four brass players, playing just the top part in each case will provide a cohesive performance.

The Summer's Chores

Designed as a response to the rapidly changing creative world of 2020 amidst the unprecedented COVID disruptions; The Summer's Chores was created as a motivational tool for home use over the summer months for students and teachers alike. The intension being that the performer plays all the parts to each piece while learning how to record themselves, experimenting in how to make a click-track, trying to multi-track, multi-task, mix, video-edit and much much more…. Divided into either 5 parts or 8 part groups and stylistically ranging from the Baroque & Renaissance to New Orleans Jazz & Dixieland foot-tappers. Parts in Bb Treble Clef only and best suited for Trumpets or Cornets.

Weather Report
