Surprised by Beans

Sometime ago I wrote this piece in the style of an Argentinian Tango. The process was quick and straightforward; the only problem being that I had yet to think of a title. I decided to take a break and make a cup of tea. I opened a cupboard door (head height) to grab a tea bag only to be met by a falling tin of baked beans that had not been carefully stacked in the cupboard. One big surprise and a sore head later I had a title for my new piece !

Description

PARP ! - a collection of thirty original compositions.

Set at a Junior Band level, PARP ! follows a flexi scoring formula of mixed brass players; requiring a minimum of 4 brass players - but the maximum number is endless.

The pieces are predominantly groove based and seek to take participants through a wide range of styles and musical identities.

In the instance of using just four brass players, playing just the top part in each case will provide a cohesive performance.

“This is a wonderfully charismatic disc with playing of the highest quality. I cannot recommend it highly enough.”

David Bremner

“The CD is just fabulous. The ensemble playing is fantastic; the tightness of the ensemble is amazing; the balance and dynamics are just brilliant.”
